Selling your practice
What does it cost to sell my practice?
Our fee is a 10% success fee, calculated on the total purchase price and paid at closing from the sale proceeds. There are no upfront, listing, or valuation fees. If your practice doesn't sell, you owe us nothing.
How much is my practice worth?
Small tax and accounting practices usually sell for somewhere around 0.8× to 1.3× trailing-12-month gross revenue. Where you land depends on client retention, recurring monthly work, fee levels, client concentration, location, and how long you'll help with the transition. Our valuation estimator gives a quick range, and a free broker valuation gives you a number you can rely on.
Will my clients or staff find out I'm selling?
Not unless you want them to. We market your practice with a blind profile (no firm name, no city, no identifying details). Buyers must be screened and sign a non-disclosure agreement before we release anything that identifies you, and we release it only with your approval.
How long does a sale take?
Most sales close within 3 to 9 months of listing. Timing matters: many sellers list in late spring or summer so the buyer can take over before the next tax season, with the seller helping through it.
How are deals usually structured?
Common structures include cash at closing (often funded by an SBA 7(a) loan), a down payment with seller financing over 2–5 years, and retention-based pricing, where part of the price depends on how many clients stay. We help you weigh price against certainty and how much risk you keep.
Do I need to stay on after the sale?
Buyers value a warm handoff. Most sellers stay for one tax season, introducing the buyer, writing letters to clients, and handling questions. Some stay longer as a part-time preparer. A longer transition usually means a higher price and stronger client retention.
Buying a practice
Do buyers pay a fee?
No. Registering, receiving listings, and working with us through closing is free for buyers. The seller pays our fee.
How do I get details on a listing?
Register as a buyer, then request the listing. We'll send a non-disclosure agreement. Once it's signed and we've confirmed you qualify, you'll receive the full practice profile: financials, client demographics, service mix, software, staff, and the seller's goals.
Can I finance an acquisition?
Yes. Many buyers use SBA 7(a) loans, which can cover a large share of the purchase price for qualified buyers. Seller financing and retention-based terms are also common. We can introduce you to lenders who work with professional-practice acquisitions.
What do sellers look for in a buyer?
Credentials and experience, the capacity to serve the clients well, the same approach to service and fees, and a credible financing plan. A clear buyer profile and proof of funds or lender pre-qualification will make your offer much stronger.
